Golf caddies and special offers
Wales is already a great destination for golfers from around the world, with unique and challenging golf courses. But, for me, it’s the stunning settings of these courses which makes Wales very special... I’m not even a golfer, but I’d definitely want to putt a few balls at Nefyn Golf Club, perched on the Llŷn Peninsula surrounded by rugged coastline; or try a swing at Royal St. David’s Golf Club with Harlech Castle dominating the background. With the Ryder Cup arriving in Wales next October, Wales is set for even great recognition its for world-class golf.
There’s now more great news for golfers: Wales is the first country in Europe to offer an Internet caddy program...
Finding and booking a top-rate professional, qualified caddy for any of Wales’s 200 courses can be done in under a minute with www.caddylocator.com. But, ‘qualified’ doesn’t begin to explain all the benefits of using this new resource. Many caddies are actually members of the local golf club who participate in the program, as Glenn Hughes, Southerndown Golf Club member and caddy says, “we love golf and enjoy being in the company of golfers.” They are Welsh characters in their own right and enjoy nothing more than sharing Welsh golf lore and their insider knowledge of the course with visiting golfers from across the world.
Wales' National Caddy Scheme has been designed to create a gold standard for registered caddies and aims to equip caddies with the knowledge and skills to offer a premium service. Caddy Hughes is fond of recounting an experience with a group of American golfers last year:
“They loved our links-style course and relished the prospect of playing the low running shot, landing the ball in front of the green and letting it release to the flag using the natural slope of the land. I guess it’s because there’s nothing like this in the States - natural, unspoiled courses with great views. They also loved the sheep-a natural hazard - and one they certainly hadn’t seen before! All the caddies were invited to join them for a drink afterwards. Tick followed tock and the evening drew on, business cards and phone numbers were swapped, invites to go over to the US to play their course were gratefully received.”
Wales prides itself on offering uncrowded courses, accessible tee times and affordable green fees. Check out www.golfasitshouldbe.com and www.caddylocator.com for more information.
